Registering as a locum with Medacs Social Work could not be easier. You will be allocated one consultant who will guide you through the registration process and find you the type of post you are looking for. You will receive honest feedback throughout and your consultant will maintain contact regularly to keep you updated.
We have recently invested in a CRB fast track service which can mean receiving your disclosure in as little as 48 hours.
In addition, our team will visit you to view your original documents if you can not reach us.

Our specialist, high quality service involves face-to-face meetings with your dedicated consultant and a friendly, tailored package to suit your needs.

As part of our candidate promise, we will not farm your CV out to numerous teams without talking to you about each role first and making sure that you are interested in applying.
Wherever possible, we will also negotiate your pay rate directly with the team on your behalf and we offer a limited company service to all our Social Workers.

Absolutely not. There is no charge to register with us and our service of finding you work is free of charge to you.



Working for an agency can bring many benefits. Immediately after your registration interview, your consultant will start reviewing roles that match your requirements in a bid to get you placed as soon as you are ready. Registration can take from under a week to 4 weeks depending on your CRB and references, however we can assure you that we will make it as swift and stress-free as possible for you.

Thanks to our Fast Track CRB, this process can be as rapid as under one week.

Locum pay rates generally eclipse the average salary offered by most Local Authorities and reflect the true value of social work. This means that by joining us, social workers are able to increase their pay with our market leading rates, without having to move into management positions and away from the front line unless they want to.
We can offer PAYE or Limited Company status to suit you and if you opt for PAYE, you will receive holiday pay too.

In addition to the financial gains, locums can introduce a level of flexibility into working life that can allow a shorter working week, and they can take as many sabbaticals or breaks as they wish.
You may decide to opt for short contracts to experience as many different teams or organisations as possible, or you may want a longer, more secure contract.

Social Workers who are free to locum full time will usually work a minimum of 35 to 40 hours per week on a contract basis of between 3 months and 2 years. If you are a Social Worker looking for less than 35 hours per week, we should be able to offer you part time posts or consultancy work.



Yes, we welcome applications from newly qualified applicants, although your placement opportunities may be restricted until you gain more experience.

You must have proof of GSCC registration to work for us. If you are in the middle of completing or renewing your registration, we are happy to register you pending completion.

If you choose to be paid through PAYE, Medacs Social Work run a daily payroll which means that you can submit a timesheet any day of the working week and expect payment directly into your bank account within 3 working days. This means that you will not be left short in the way that you can be with other agencies who only run a payroll once per week.

If you would prefer to choose limited company status, we can also offer daily payroll, although this is dependant on your umbrella company.

Not all original documentation will be needed again only those that have expired, your consultant can advise you.


If you have opted for a PAYE tax type, you will accrue holiday pay according to how many hours you work through us each week, up to a maximum of 28 days per year. Holiday pay will be paid at the average of your pay rate and will steadily accrue over the year.
